Science Blogs: ivory tower 2.0?

At the moment I'm preparing the moderation of a discussion with
several science bloggers that will take place on Wednesday on
www.wj-tag.de. Until now, I'm just collecting impressions and
questions and I think, there are several aspects that could be
discussed. One concerns the bloggers and their readers. Some say,
science blogging is great to discuss issues with other scientists - in
their eyes science blogging may be a tool of internal communications.
To be honest: I don't remember a colleague ever commenting one of my
blog posts. So this makes me sceptical. But what do we know about the
readers of science blogs? Is it the same group reading printed science
magazines? And what is more: Are any debates taking place within
science blogs which are relevant for more than a day? Or are science
blogs just a kind of intellectual small talk?

What do you think? And: are there any questions you would like to ask
a science blogger?

Welcome

So this is my first post with posterous. To get it online I just use
GMail. At the moment, I'm not sure if this will be more than playing
around with a new tool. Maybe there is a niche in my online activities
for posterous - maybe not (since I'm blogging, using Friendfeed and
Twitter). Time will show.
